General Organisation Of Sea Ports sponsors Lloyds List Global And Middle East Maritime Awards

The General Organisation of Sea Ports (GOP) today announced its joint corporate sponsorship of two of the most preeminent global and regional maritime industry accolades, the Lloyd's List Global Awards and the Lloyd's List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards. Dedicated to supporting excellence in all disciplines of the maritime industry, the prestigious awards will be held later this year in London and Dubai respectively.

GOP's co-sponsorship of the events with Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain's efforts to raise the global profile of Khalifa Bin Salman Port and establish the port as an effective gateway to the lucrative Northern Gulf market.

The Lloyd's List Global Awards ceremony will be held at The Dorchester, London, on September 29. The annual ceremony provides a unique forum for all sectors of the maritime industry and its leading players to honour excellence and outstanding achievement in the shipping and maritime industries. The awards cover each of the major shipping disciplines including innovation, training and education, best vessel, best master, corporate social responsibility, environmental protection, port operations and classification. From Bahrain, ASRY has been shortlisted for the Company of the Year and the Corporate Social Responsibility awards.

H.E. Shaikh Daij bin Salman Al Khalifa Chairman of GOP and ASRY said the sponsorship will promote Bahrain's growing reputation as an active player in the maritime and shipping industries, with a long-term view to contribute to the Kingdom's non-oil economic growth and diversity.

"We have selected to sponsor these important industry events as part of our strategic marketing vision for Bahrain's maritime industry development. Participating in high profile events such as the Lloyd's List Global and Middle East and Subcontinent Awards is an important component of our efforts to raise the Kingdom's profile," Shaikh Daij said.

"Through building key strategic partnerships with an institution like Lloyds List, GOP will create a platform for marketing and promoting the importance of Bahrain's role in the global industry. Lloyds List is the leading daily publication of the maritime and shipping industry, and through this partnership, we will have a new channel through which we can position Bahrain as an internationally reputable maritime centre in terms of its competiveness and modern regulations, infrastructure, services and standards thus building an environment conducive to the international investor."

The Lloyd's List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards will be held in Dubai on November 10, emphasising the region's importance in the shipping industry and will honour the organisations which have contributed to the sustainability of trade between Asia and the Middle East during the challenging economic conditions of the past year.

Delegations from Bahrain will attend each of the events in London and Dubai, further increasing Bahrain's visibility in regional and international maritime industry circles. The London delegation will be led by Shaikh Daij, and will include Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Ambassador, Embassy of Bahrain in UK, Sir Roger Tomkys, former Chairman of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, GOP and ASRY board members and local editors in chief.
