  • PRESS RELEASE

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute will hold its third year of public programs in the presence of NYUAD's inaugural class of undergraduate students who begin classes on September 13, 2010.

The Institute, which serves as NYUAD's public forum and research arm, has been hosting academic conferences, workshops, lectures, film series, performances, and other public programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, and engineering since its inception in 2008.

Events during September and October will examine a range of topics that have both regional and global importance, including: the effect of financial crises, information security and privacy, public policy in developing countries, and the role of ethics in science.

Philip Kennedy, Faculty Director at NYUAD Institute, said:
"Establishing an outlet for intellectual discourse and knowledge exchange within the Abu Dhabi community has been an important priority for NYUAD. We are excited that this season the Institute events will provide an opportunity for our first class of gifted students to interact with the broader community by becoming a part of this active discussion on a range of academic, technical, and current subjects."

"The success of past years has shown us that members from all sectors of Abu Dhabi's multicultural community are keen to participate in scholarly dialogue and share their diverse perspectives. This season should be particularly engaging as we tackle very current subjects that will strongly impact on society in the years to come," he said.

The first event of the season will be a distinguished lecture held on September 16: "Global Finance After the Crisis," led by Ingo Walter, Vice Dean of Stern School of Business and Finance and NYU. Public events will be held at Al Mamoura Auditorium in Abu Dhabi, while invitation-based workshops will be held on NYUAD's downtown campus.
