The requirements for sitting for the CPA examination vary from one US state to another. However, the minimum requirements are a bachelor degree, along with a minimum number of credits in accountancy and business-related subjects. Significantly, states requiring advanced degrees, together with a minimum 150 credit hours and a wide range of subjects covering IT management, software applications and other specialized courses are on the increase.
By concluding an invaluable agreement with South New Hampshire University, Etisalat Academy paved the way for UAE technical colleges graduates to meet the requirements for the CPA exam. As per this agreement, Etisalat Academy has been tasked with giving an accredited training course on US federal tax law, a prerequisite for sitting for the CPA examination.
The CPA examination's most visible change is its transition from a paper and pencil exam to a computer based test (CBT). Along with this new delivery method, the examination's content is also being revised. Based on recent practice analysis findings,
the revised examination incorporates increased emphasis on information technology and general business knowledge with a broadened scope in the audit area. Significantly, changes include increased skills testing and a stronger emphasis on integration of knowledge.
'Etisalat Academy remains keen to keep pace with the latest changes affecting all areas of training and professional development. This has earned it a high reputation among a number of leading international academic institutions. For this reason, we have already commenced implementing the necessary procedures and measures to make our programmes and curricula in conformity with the new revised CPA exam.' Commented Dr. Doaa Fares, Etisalat Academy general manager
'The difficulty and comprehensiveness of the CPA exam is a well-known fact to all candidates. However, success in the CPA exam is a reasonably attainable goal if candidates are well prepared.' Added Dr. Doaa.
'We at the Academy are determined to make our review course, which is conducted by well trained professional instructors, a rewarding learning experience.' He concluded
The CPA exam covers four sections, namely business law & professional responsibilities, auditing standards and procedures, accounting & reporting and financial auditing and reporting. It is conducted twice a year at the first Wednesday and Thursday of the months of May and November. Passing grade is 75%.
The CPA review course includes, among others, live lectures, continuous exercises, end-of-modules tests, progress monitoring and exam hints and techniques. Currently, as many as 40 candidates, most of them are UAE nationals, are attending the CPA review course. The latter is held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain respectively in order to make it easier for candidates belonging to the different government departments and private sector.
