METITO provides self-sufficient water solution to Sheraton Sharm Hotel
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 16 - 2002 at 09:29
- PRESS RELEASE
METITO (Overseas) Ltd has used its world-class expertise and state of the art technology to make the luxury Sheraton Sharm Hotel in Sharm Al Sheikh on the Red Sea coast self sufficient in water to serve its international clientele.
The first stage of the challenge was met by METITO sinking a beach well to pump seawater into a fully automated on-site seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology to supply up to 1200 cubic metres of fresh water every day.
Sea Water Reverse Osmosis is the method in which sea water is desalinated into water suitable for drinking, use in swimming pools and for the full range of hotel utilities from kitchens to showers, sinks and toilet flushing throughout the hotel.
METITO (Overseas) Ltd Managing Director Fady Juez said: "Guaranteeing a constant supply of drinking water was just part of this project. We also designed and installed an on-site sewage treatment facility that treats all the sewage and other used water from showers, sinks and kitchens.
"Treated water from this facility can also then be re-used to help irrigate the landscaped areas of the hotel in an arid region where there is no natural water supply."
METITO'S all embracing role in the project included turn key design, engineering, fabrication supply, installation, commissioning and the ongoing full operation and maintenance.
The project was undertaken and supervised from METITO's Cairo office that has been responsible for a number of hotel and leisure related projects throughout the Sinai Peninsula on the shores of the Red Sea.
Skilful landscaping also ensures that the locations of the wells and the treatment plants on the hotel site are well concealed, and hotel guests do not encounter any unwanted odours or smells during their time at the resort.
METITO has international experience in supplying similar projects to hotels worldwide including other major hotels in Egypt and the UAE encompassing the Royal Mirage and Ritz Carlton in Dubai.
