IBM opens door for digital media revolution

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, June 17 - 2003 at 13:49
  • PRESS RELEASE

IBM Middle East will host the region's first 'Digital Media' roadshow this month, opening the doors of creativity and inspiration for the region's media industry.

The roadshow is visiting the region's premier centres of publishing and broadcasting in Dubai, Doha and Beirut, bringing international experts to help the local media industry take advantage of new techniques and tools to create mind-blowing content that is delivered faultlessly - and with the least effort.

This series of events is happening at a critical time in the media industry in the Middle East, which has recently undergone a massive explosion. Every day new companies are opening or expanding, in broadcasting, entertainment, publishing, content creation, marketing and advertising. The roadshow will kick off in Dubai on 22nd June, and will move on to Doha and Beirut on 24th and 26th June, respectively.

"A priority for the industry is not only to increase the number of media outlets, but also to raise the bar on the quality of the creativity and programming - and the slickness of its presentation," said Samer Shaar, GM of IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan. "The world-class broadcaster, publisher or content designer is not only concerned about creativity, but needs to be very serious about how content is moved around, schedule, stored and archived. A great piece of design work should not be let down at the last second by a bug in how it is broadcast! Today's digital media technologies from IBM helps companies create truly inspired and faultless productions every time."

Regional media companies are increasingly looking to raise the quality and professionalism of their productions as they compete more and more against international players, and are increasingly looking to specialised media technologies to help them create - and deliver - top-notch material.

The international digital media experts from IBM will talk about the future of digital media in the Middle East, the latest digital media offerings, followed by separate sessions on a variety of specialised digital media solutions, including content creation for broadcasters, content creation for media production houses, radio management solutions, gaming solutions, and content management and publishing solutions for the Web and print industries. A special session will also focus on the latest surveillance management and archival technologies that are currently being used by security companies around the world.

The roadshow will cover reference stories and case studies with world-renowned organisations, including CNN, Coca-Cola and Butterfly.net, and provide a demo area where delegates can take a first-hand look at some of the latest digital media solutions offered by IBM.
