Review: Fujairah Rotana Resort and Spa

Fujairah Rotana Resort and Spa at Al Aqah beach is a one-and-a-half hour drive from Dubai, on the tip of the Arabian Peninsula. The resort is beautifully sheltered between the mountains and the warm Indian Ocean. The lush tropical landscape is complimented by a warm welcome from the staff on check-in.

The colonial design of the 250 ocean-view rooms and suites blends Gulf's local architecture with a graceful palazzo-style estate. After the check in process, which was fairly quick, a golf cab arrived to take us to our beach front room. Our room was tidy and cool and we were in a chalet-like garden terrace - which enjoys larger rooms than those in the main building. The bedroom itself gave an airy feeling of space, being large with a comfy super king-size bed, and good-sized bathroom with a big walk in shower.

The beach view from our room was beautiful and supremely relaxing, with landscaped gardens featuring tropical thatched umbrellas facing the Indian Ocean.

The hotel has a number of food and beverage outlets, one - Waves - is a lovely restaurant down by the beach, serving fresh seafood and a range of different cuisines. Another, the Mozaique restaurant, which is the hotel's all-day dining option has a themed food night every night, and this is also where guests breakfast in the morning.

The Fujairah Rotana Resort and Spa has a number of facilities for guests, each one geared to offering maximum relaxation - the hotel definitely targets the casual holiday maker and those looking to take a break from the daily grind. Zen the Spa at Rotana offers a world-class spa facility billed as a retreat for your 'body, mind and spirit'. You can enjoy the one of the most modern and best equipped spas on the East Coast of the UAE with 17 treatment rooms, and one VIP suite with a hydro therapy jet bath, much needed after a long drive from Dubai.

Guest services at the beachfront have a choice of complimentary water sports for guests, including speedboat rides, snorkeling, kayaking and excursions in a glass-bottomed boat.

For guests who do still want to get online for work, the rooms offer broadband internet which can be accessed for a small charge, while there is also a small conference room that can be rented - although the principal focus of the service and amenities is on relaxation.

Overall we had a pleasant, and comfortable stay at this hotel - a good escape from the hustle and bustle of Dubai.
