Co-Op Islami launches unique 'Golden Goal' programme for employees

Co-Op Islami, the Gulf's leading supplier of pure Halal meat products, has launched a unique programme called 'Golden Goal' for its employees, as part of its strategy to motivate staff and further improve efficiency within the entire company to achieve its long-term goal of becoming a major player in international markets with a large concentration of Muslim communities.

Co-Op Islami Managing Director, Mr. Saleh Saeed Lootah announced the "Golden Goal" programme at a seminar held in Dubai exclusively for its employees, during which he made a presentation, highlighting the vision and mission behind this unique initiative.

In a separate presentation at the event, Mr. Saleh Abdullah Lootah, Assistant General Manager (Operations) at Co-op Islami stressed on the importance of change, and that it was logical that changes first take place within the company.

"We have to change because the market is extremely competitive and is constantly demanding better services and better quality. More importantly, Dubai has taken the lead to present itself as an international centre of business excellence, and as a national company, Co-Op Islami has to match its goals with that of the overall aims of the emirate".

Mr. Abdullah Lootah also said that the change process would cover five initiatives, namely, re-defining leadership, the application of quality standards, Employee focus, Food excellence, information management.

He also described the journey of Co-Op Islami, from starting as a supplier of frozen chicken to diversifying into other areas including seafood and cheese products, and the Aladdin range of processed meat products, which had a traditional theme to target children. He also spoke about the launch of a new subsidiary company, Emdad which is dedicated to offering high quality catering services.

Mr. Lootah also highlighted Co-Op Islami's achievement of being awarded the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certification, the ISO 9001 and other certifications.

The presentation also covered future strategies, human resources development, and improvements in communications and infrastructure to help further enhance the overall corporate image and the Co-Op Islami brand.

Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Lway Naqasha from the Dubai Quality Group praised Co-Op Islami for achieving and maintaining high quality standards in line with the recommendations made by the Dubai Quality programme. "Co-Op Islami has played a major role in promoting quality and business excellence among national companies in Dubai".

Speakers at the seminar emphasized on the importance of an individual to the company and the valuable contribution that an employee can make by presenting a positive image of the organisation in public. The event also included entertaining activities on creative thinking and teamwork.

Co-Op Islami was set up as the Dubai Cooperative Society in 1981 to provide genuine halal meat products as per Islamic methods with chicken the first product launched by the company and today Co-Op Islami enjoys a sizable share of the market in the Gulf.

In 1991 the Co-op Islami plant, boasting state-of-the-art technology, was set up in Jebel Ali Free Zone. New machinery has recently been introduced to further enhance production and quality.

Chickens remain the biggest element of the Co-Op Islami product range from whole frozen chickens to pieces and nuggets. The chickens that are sold by Co-Op Islami are also raised by using 100 per cent natural grain feed while most other chicken farms use animal feed.
