  • PRESS RELEASE

The Deira City Centre is almost one of the 'don't miss' tourist attractions of Dubai.

With so many stores spread over a sprawling area, the City Centre serves as just that- the fabled Town Square. People from all over the world milling about, experiencing the sheer delight of having so much choice under one roof, including stores for different economic strata.

Now with the Dubai Summer Surprises running and the announcement of the Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG) promotion, visitors numbers have gone up. Sandy Mercer, Marketing Manager, Deira City Centre, said, "This weekend, we have noticed that visitor traffic was up 30% over the last weekend. In addition, sales over last weekend was very good, reflecting a strong opening weekend for our DSMG promotion. We have already distributed over 12,000 coupons to shoppers, which is 40% higher than the corresponding figure of 2002."

With shoppers making their presence felt at the City Centre, the mall has gone all out with their expansion plans, long-term, and their entertainment calendar. The stage that has been set up at the City Centre is bigger and better than that of last year. "It is almost double the size of our old stage, and has been upgraded with better sight-lines to make each performance more appealing to the audiences. The West Court stage, close to IKEA, is also busy with many entertainment activities for the entire family. The banners and other decorations we have put up are sure to catch the eye and especially appeal to our young visitors", said Mercer.

Summer is traditionally a time for retailers to entice shoppers by offering discounts. Now, with DSS having morphed the summer business climate into one of hectic activity, the retail outlets at malls announce their own promotions as well as participate in the DSMG promotion. With so many stores in the Deira City Centre, it is now a veritable treasure-house of offers and discounts on your favourite goods.

The members of the City Centre's privilege group, who receive the infotainment publication, City Life, will get privileged information on offers and will also receive special deals on shopping.

Deira City Centre will play host to a large number of activities, most aimed at children as a part of the Dubai Summer Surprises. From workshops to entertainment shows, and from car races to car-raffles, the City Centre is sure to provide a wholesome experience to every member of the family.

DSS 2003 started with the Flower Surprises on June 19th 2003, to be followed by Cartoon Surprises, Colours Surprises, Sweet Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Ice Surprises, Arts Surprises, Heritage Surprises, Adventure Surprises, and will end with Back-to-School Surprises on August 29th, 2003.
