Fun winter activities in Salzburg

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 21 - 2002 at 12:08
  • PRESS RELEASE

Passengers looking for special deals with great value can make their vacation special during Eid Al Adha holidays by considering one of Lufthansa's winter holiday packages to Salzburg in Austria.

The packages, which include return economy airfare, a choice for three to seven nights at four and five-star hotels with breakfast and ski packages, are valid until April 2002.

"The winter offers were initiated for snow and ski enthusiasts to benefit further from Lufthansa's outstanding holiday packages. We have handpicked some of the best ski destinations to ensure that our customers have a memorable holiday at the best possible prices," said Uwe Wriedt, Lufthansa General Manager, Passenger Sales for UAE and Director for Gulf, Iran and Pakistan.

"Winter in Salzburg is synonymous with skiing images and sports activities. To ensure the best ski experience Lufthansa passengers can purchase ski-passes when opting for the ski-as-you-please package and get first hand information on the best ski areas in Salzburg," added Wriedt.

"Those who are not so keen on skiing can enjoy other winter attractions in Salzburg that include snowboarding, snow-bike rides, snowball battles, gliding down gentle slopes on a sledge, shopping and sightseeing." Lufthansa packages in Salzburg and nearby areas include the famous ski slopes of Kitzbuhel, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Gastein Valley, Schlaming and Zell am See among others.

The small town charm and breath-taking scenery of Kitzbuhel creates the perfect balance for the serious skier as about 80% of the slopes in Kitzbuhel are intermediate to advanced level.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm, on the other hand, is a pretty, traditional-style village with a very lively nightlife. The extensive circuit of slopes on both sides of the valley, linked by an efficient modern lift system, resemble a French resort more than a traditional Austrian one, with the added advantage of excellent traditional mountain restaurants dotted around.
An ideal ski area, great for confident intermediates, with lots of long, challenging routes and great cruising in the Schlossalm sector is Gastein Valley. Gastein Valley offers atmospheric, traditional mountain restaurants and plenty of off-slope facilities, many related to its origins as a spa resort.

In Schladming, new lifts link extensive slopes, excellent for intermediates. In a side valley above Schladming are the ski areas of Ramsau and the Dachstein Glacier, all are linked by a bus service. The town is a lively place with good hotels and restaurants (some in old buildings of great architectural merit) and a lively nightlife scene. Not to be missed is the lakeside town with a charming old center, Zell am See, which is an unusual resort that makes an attractive base for holidaymakers who enjoy driving around in the snow as it is easy to visit numerous nearby resorts.

"Other attractions in Salzburg include horse carriage rides for adults and children, winter-hiking, cross country skiing, spas, crystal factories, cultural events and a wide choice of shopping options," concluded Wriedt. "Visitors can also take side trips to Venice, Vienna, Munich or opt for a musical journey with a Mozart or Sound of Music tour."
