Cellucom launches U-Club - online community for mobile phone users

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, June 29 - 2003 at 17:23
  • PRESS RELEASE

Designer ringtones, clever Java games, animated screensavers, are among the offerings of U-Club, the new online community for cellular phone users who want 'to get more from their mobile'.

Article continues below

Launched by Cellucom, Dubai-based distributor of mobile communication devices and accessories, U-Club is currently giving away free membership to mobile phone users. Every new member receives 250 credit points that they can use to download top ringtones - polyphonic and monotonic, animated pictures, wallpaper or logos.

Mobile entertainment takes on a new meaning with U-Club, and sitting by your phone is a far less solitary experience with the imaginative java games available on the site. Vanquish the forces of evil in the mantle of an ingenious wizard, in Magic Elements, or don the garb of a heroic fighter-bomber and break down the evil axis in Delta Bomber. More good against evil battles are fought by Katoo, in the jump and run game where monsters are defeated to save the princess of Sha'heem from the dungeons of Xorloc.

For adventure-seeking drivers Speed Chaser offers the heady rush of victory - if you can beat your opponent to the checkpoint. And yet more driving thrills can be had with Dust 'n' Dirt, which features all the grit and grime of an off-road rally.

It's not all racy adventure at U-Club either, and you can play the Indiana Jones-type action hero in Gem Jam as you uncover a secret treasure chamber and then crack its access mechanism to claim its precious hoard. Or, depending on whether you have a sweet tooth, you can fight the nasty grunts guarding your tasty cookie treats in Cookie Mon.

However, if battling alien forces is more your thing, lead the push against attacking alien invaders in Combat Zone, or pilot your own special forces space craft and use its sophisticated arsenal of super-blaster guns and heat rockets to chase them away and punish the masterminds of the nefarious plan in Plasma Inferno. Save planet Earth - while you wait for your mobile to ring.

"Our experience shows there are very few people offering this kind of content, and with the high technology adoption rate in this part of the world, we see a great potential for U-Club. The site is updated daily and our researchers are constantly on the lookout for new content that can be added to the site," said Arun Nagar, Managing Director, Cellucom.

The site has been developed by Imaginations, a Dubai-based visual effects, production and computer games development company and a part of the Cellucom group. Sound technicians at the company are responsible for digitally recreating favourite tunes as ringtones for mobile phones. The current batch of ringtones available at U-Club includes popular Arabic, Hindi, English, Tagalog, Malayalam and Tamil tunes.

Cellucom will be launching scratch cards at the end of the one-month U-Club launch offer period, to enable mobile phone users to buy content from the site. Site members who have exceeded their free 250 points allocation can, for the time being, buy content through premium SMS service. Once introduced, the scratch cards - each with a unique pin number - will be available through Cellucom store and Val-U-Shop distribution outlets, as well as - where possible - shops selling Etisalat cards.
