Acer's Leadership Workshop primes company for success in Middle East market
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, July 01 - 2003 at 09:28
- PRESS RELEASE
Acer Computers (M.E.) Ltd. has reaffirmed its commitment to better service levels in the Middle East by uniting with the University of Connecticut and providing members of its management team with the chance to take part in a leadership development workshop.
"By investing in a course that helps the personal development of our key staff members, we are ensuring that Acer's business will continue to grow in the Middle East," said Krishna Murthy, General Manager, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.
"In today's working environment, it is essential that on-the-job training continues throughout a person's career. At Acer, we believe that employees deserve the chance to have the best skills and opportunities available," added Murthy.
According to experts at the University of Connecticut, managers require more than just technical skills and intelligence to do well. Its recent study - examined at the workshop - says that managers need to know how to effectively lead and inspire others, which is only possible through applied emotional intelligence (EI). The research shows that more than two-thirds of work success is driven by such EI components as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
"By getting our managers to take part in the training workshop we were able to advance their inter-personal skills to an even more sophisticated level," said Murthy.
"Communicating with customers or colleagues is the most important part of a manager's job as it takes on average up to 90 per cent of the working day. To be successful in business, managers have to be able to communicate correctly in a variety of roles ranging from meetings, discussions, presentations, and phone calls."
At the conclusion of the recently held two-day leadership development workshop, 23 managerial staff members were presented with the Certificate of Professional Development. Held in association with the University of Connecticut, the course was conducted by Dr Robert E. Beaudoin, Management and Training Consultant, Ed. D.
