Arab Media Summit to be held on October 7th & 8th
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, July 08 - 2003 at 16:10
- PRESS RELEASE
Under the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Minister of Defense, it was announced that The Arab Media Summit 2003 will be held on October 7th and 8th in Dubai.
"The Summit promises highly charged brainstorming debate between eminent media personalities from both the Arab and Western schools of thought," said Mona Al Marri, Executive Manager of the Dubai Press Club.
"Response has been tremendous indicating the eagerness with which the opinion-making Arab and Western journalists want to approach and understand each other.
"That, of course, ties in well with our primary aim of hosting the Arab Media Summit - and that is to open channels for dialogue between the Arab and Western media so as to promote a better understanding of each other," she pointed out.
Theme of war
Al Marri said: "This time our theme of 'War & The Media' has been selected because of its timeliness and particular relevance to journalists under the prevailing world scenario, and the recent and continuing situation in Iraq."
She said the Dubai Press Club aims to bring the best possible speakers to the region to stimulate discussion and define new directions of thought in an open and candid environment.
"We are expecting more than 500 Editors-in-Chief of major Arabic and Global print and broadcast media, leading journalists, columnists, academics, analysts, commentators and senior government officials," Al Marri said.
Since the inaugural event, the Arab Media Summit has evolved to such a degree that it is now marked on the calendar of leading journalists around the world as a must-attend event, she pointed out.
Networking event
The annual Arab Media Summit is the only international media gathering of its kind in that journalists are not required to cover an event. They constitute the event. The Summit is a forum where the media can interact and network with each other, share industry information, discuss latest issues or just simply catch up with their colleagues across the continents, Al Marri pointed out.
However, while all this networking is going on, there is a serious under layer of thoughts being exchanged, respective positions being explained, opinions being influenced and often-differing views being better understood. The Arab Media Summit is the only international media gathering that focuses their attention on the Arab world.
