The new high-definition-ready televisions, targeting the region's fashion conscious consumers, are expected to increase the company's market share to 31 per cent share in 2003.

In addition to introducing the comprehensive high-end 3-panel LCD Projection Televisions, ranging in sizes from 43 inches to 61 inches, Samsung also unveiled its T8-series Projection Televisions, which feature a built-in progressive scan offering flicker-free images and improved picture quality to viewers.

"The launch of Samsung's latest range of projection televisions will revolutionise display technology in the region," said Mr. H. J. Park, Senior Manager, Sales and Marketing, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "Already a regional leader in the display industry, Samsung is capitalizing on its proven track record of success to offer a new generation of high-end - 43-inch, 50-inch and 61-inch - 3-panel LCD projection televisions that exceed performance levels of existing plasma and projection televisions available in the market," Mr. Park added.

In 2003, the estimated market size for overall Projection TVs in Middle East and Africa is 93,000 units, an increase on 64,000 units the previous year. In 2002 Samsung's share of the regional market stood at 20 per cent: the company is now targeting a 31 per cent market share in 2003.

"Samsung reached the number one position globally for 3-Panel LCD Projection Televisions with a 32 per cent market share in the first half of 2003. The company is also targeting the number one position in Projection Televisions, globally, by targeting a 22 per cent share in the estimated 4.3million units market in 2003," Mr. Park added.

Each of the new models utilise Samsung's first-ever digital processing algorithm, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe™), which provides large-screen TVs with brighter, crisper images, heightened detail of moving images and text, greater picture clarity and noise reduction. Samsung has also added a BBE® Sound System with five-band sound equalizer to power the built-in 30-watt wood frame speaker system. The new models also include RealFlect System™ Pro for cutting-edge video enhancements.

"The Samsung range of 3-Panel LCD Projection Televisions distinguishes itself through superior clarity and vastly enhanced viewing angle, brightness and response time. Similarly, the T8-series television range is characterised by its realistic image display, digital sensors and space saving slim technology, which is ideal for home-theatre systems," said Mr. Ashraf Sajid, Marketing Manager, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "We expect the DNIe technology breakthrough to elevate the Samsung brand to the top of the rapidly growing regional digital TV market," he added.

Mr. Wafik Bahlawan, Executive Director, Juma Al Majid, the sole distributor of Samsung digital products and televisions in the UAE said: "We share Samsung's vision of what the future of home entertainment will look like. We are pleased to partner with the leading player in the digital consumer electronics market. Samsung is a company that has the technical understanding and marketing reach to help digital technology become increasingly pervasive in the future and take home entertainment to unprecedented levels."
