Dubai hotel review: The Shangri-La

  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, April 14 - 2011 at 11:12

Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai is just 15 minutes away from Dubai international airport and close to some of the better known destinations in Dubai such as the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world, Dubai Mall and the Downtown area.

The hotel is a 43-storey tower and is a good location for business visitors as it is just five minutes away from the Dubai World Trade Centre, where the majority of exhibitions are held in the city. It is also extremely close to Dubai international Financial Centre and various business towers.

Guests at the Dubai hotel can receive many privileges

The hotel offers a number of privileges to its guests, and even more to those staying in its pricier rooms. A private check in hastens the arrival process, while guests are welcomed with fresh fruits and local Arabic sweets.

The rooms are very stylishly decorated, and boast exceptional views of the Burj Khalifa, although Sheikh Zayed Road is more of an eyesore than anything else. Those looking for the perfect picture postcard view may be left disappointed by four lanes of traffic.

The rooms are equipped with a Bang & Olufsen television and a CD/DVD entertainment system. The bathrooms are spacious and well laid out and feature L'Occitane bath amenities. It includes a deep soaking bath tub and a walk-in shower with a rainforest showerhead.

Business services are also on offer

The hotel provides free broadband access for its guests, enabling them to conduct business matters while relaxing at the hotel. The business centre itself offers a number of services such as translation, copying and couriering.

The Horizon Floor Health Club on Level 42 includes a fitness centre, infinity pool and sun deck and provides great facilities for those looking to relax and enjoy some recreation during their stay.

Hotel dining offers a wide range of options

There are various dining options at the Shangri-La, Dubai. These range from international, Moroccan, Cantonese and Vietnamese cuisines. The most recognised of these and recommended is the Hoi-An, which offers Vietnamese cuisine.

Away from hotel dining, guests will find it tricky to walk to other restaurants, and are best advised looking for taxis to the nearest place, not an easy task on the busy Sheikh Zayed Road.

The location, although not good for sightseers, is perfect for those visiting the Emirate on a business trip. This, together with the facilities, makes it an excellent choice for the business traveller.
