More than 300 laptops will be used by students at the Police College in Abu Dhabi, believed to be the first time in the Middle East that future officers will have mobile technology to aid them.
The machines - Toshiba's Satellite 2450-101 models - come with a free carrying case and three years international warranty.
The objective is to integrate new technologies into security solutions, enhancing the educational process by giving students the opportunity to use the Internet to help research and develop their knowledge of police practice and the law.
The new notebooks are being supplied by Toshiba's UAE distributor, Al-Futtaim Electronics.
R. Muralidharan, general manager of Al-Futtaim Electronics Toshiba, said the company was delighted to be the chosen supplier for the pioneering project.
'Toshiba mobile computers have proven international credentials in the education field and we look forward to giving the same benefits and advantages to students in the UAE,' he added.
The Toshiba Satellite 2450-101 notebooks specified for the police students combine power and multimedia at optimum cost, providing high-end features at the most affordable price and enabling users to access the Internet and e-mail, store data, and perform multimedia applications.
'Such powerful performance has never before been available at such low prices,' says Ahmed Khalil, regional manager of Toshiba's Middle East Computer Systems Division.
'Toshiba clearly understands the need to remain mobile without sacrificing the performance and features of a desktop PC, benefits that are particularly advantageous to police work - whether students or serving officers.'
Toshiba has already scored notable 'firsts' in Middle East education such as last year's launch of a 'mobile classroom' - a unique and self-contained computerised teaching solution based on wireless notebooks.
Instead of complicated network installations linking desktop computers, Toshiba‚s 'eClass2Go' system needs only an electrical power point to become an instant 'virtual' classroom. It makes access to computerised learning as mobile and portable as the time-honoured textbook, freeing teaching centres from primary schools to universities from traditional space-consuming desktop systems and dedicated classrooms.
Toshioba has also enabled educational institutions to bridge their budget gap by delivering mobile computers that provide more power for less money.
Previously, budgets had limited the education sector to the most basic notebooks, but the latest Satellite notebooks combine high-power performance with affordability, enabling the education sector to make best use of available resources.
