- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, July 17 - 2003 at 09:00
- PRESS RELEASE
The Organising Committee of Dubai 2003 has discussed a number of major issues relating to the efficient management and procedures surrounding the hosting of the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund to be held in the UAE in September.
He also stated that as the countdown continues to the event in September 2003 it is vital to showcase the scale of resources and effort behind the event to people living in the UAE, the rest of the Arab World and to international audiences.
His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Dubai Development and Investment Authority and an Organising Committee member, called on the establishment of a very strong network and partnership with media regionally, internationally and locally, in order to stress the positive economic and cultural aspects of both the UAE and all the countries of the Arab region. He added that this was especially important as the Annual Meetings are being held for first time in an Arab country
The organizing committee also discussed several suggestions from the Venue and Facilities Sub Committee to change and enhance the environment around the DICC where both the Annual Meetings themselves and other events and seminars will take place between September 18-25.
The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund were first held in Washington DC in 1946. They are hosted by an international city one year in three. The UAE and Dubai were selected because of their highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure, growing importance as a financial hub and its established position as an oasis of opportunity.
