New International School to focus on World Citizenship

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, July 27 - 2003 at 14:44
  • PRESS RELEASE

A new international school, offering The National Curriculum for England, is scheduled to open in Jebel Ali this September, under the name of The Winchester School, pending approval from the Ministry of Education.

The new school will provide high standards of education in an international setting, initially to students from Kindergarten to Year 8 and eventually to Year 13.

The school's location, in the heart of The Gardens, the attractive residential complex adjacent to Jebel Ali Village, will provide an idyllic setting for a school that is poised to offer students a truly unique international experience.

Construction started some months ago and is due for completion later this summer. The school will feature a variety of facilities on an attractive campus that will include Multi Media and Computer Labs, Science Labs, well-resourced Library, sports areas and more.

"Dubai is focused on educational excellence, and we aim to contribute to this goal by providing more schools with high educational standards. High quality, international education will be a critical foundation for tomorrow's world citizens," says Hugh MacPherson, Chief Operating Officer of GEMS, Global Education Management Systems.

The school plans to provide students with an all round education and a global perspective, preparing them for an increasingly multi-cultural world. The National Curriculum for England is both esteemed and widely accepted around the world by prestigious universities for its high academic standards.

A personalised learning environment, and a variety of planned extra curricular activities will support the school's educational programme that is "based on four core principles: the development of World Citizenship, promotion of Universal Values, the development of Leadership Qualities and Forward Thinking," says Sarvesh Naidu, Principal designate of the new school.

"We are very excited about the new school," he continued, "we hope to provide the students with a global perspective and will encourage them to understand how they can make a positive difference in the world. These skills will become increasingly important for success in tomorrow's world. "

Sarvesh Naidu, with over a decade of school management experience, internationally, has worked in international schools in Italy, Canada and India for the prestigious United World Colleges, in addition to other postings. His global perspective and multi-curricular knowledge will benefit the teaching and learning needs and development of the students of the new school.
