Saudi Arabian Amiantit supplying pipes worth over SAR 78 million for Colorado River Project in Argentina

The total order was for 140 kilometers of pipes with diameters ranging from 900 to 1200 millimeters. Amitech Argentina was the main supplier with 70%, worth over SAR 78 million, while Petroplast supplied the remaining 30% of the pipes, which are already installed and in the process of hydrostatic testing. A consortium comprised of Techint and Skanska, the two largest construction companies in Argentina, are providing installation services for the project.

There are medium and long-term prospects of further contract awards in the Colorado River project. After the present phase is completed in August 2004 a second stage is planned that will extend the network to General Pico City, subject to Argentine government prioritizations, budget approvals, and contract negotiations.

The entire water consumption project consists of water intake from the Colorado River and a water treatment plant at Pichi Mahuida, 5 pumping stations along the waterline's route, and 1030 kilometers of pipelines of which 400 kilometers are trunk lines. When completed, the network will supply potable water to 35 locations in La Pampa province, including its capital city Santa Rosa and other main cities with a total 500,000 inhabitants.
