Under the patronage and attendance of H.E. Prof Ibrahim Najjar, Lebanese Minister of Justice, the International Bar Association (IBA), in cooperation with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), organised a networking meeting for Lebanese and UAE legal professionals at the Le Gray Hotel in Beirut on Monday.
At the prestigious annual event will be discussed important legal issues including trade and customs law, anti-trust, criminal law, arbitration and mediation, securities, insurance, intellectual property, taxation and many more.
As head of the Dubai delegation, H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, informed the gathering of lawyers about the very positive response to the earlier meetings held in the region.
He took the opportunity to highlight the strong relationship enjoyed by the Lebanese and UAE legal communities stating that the participation of the country's judges and lawyers in the IBA Annual Conference will provide them with a platform to network with over 4,500 international counterparts in all areas of law.
Al Ghurair informed the gathering that Dubai Chamber was seeking to strengthen its business relationships with regional bodies as a way to stimulate growth and prosperity for the Arab region, particularly Lebanon, as the country enjoys an excellent legal environment and can contribute to the regional cause through their participation in the annual event.
Al Ghurair also highlighted the significance of the IBA selecting the Middle East as the location for its 2011 annual conference for the first time and its potential benefits to the area as a result of this decision and the IBA's ongoing goal of serving the region's legal community through its IBA Middle East Office in Dubai.
Dr Abeer Jarrar, Director of the IBA Middle East Office, said, "The last leg of our regional road show took us to Lebanon, which is a prominent legal centre in the region. We succeeded in conveying the message behind the organisation of this annual conference in Dubai which we see as a unifying effort in bringing the regional legal community closer to their global counterparts."
She called upon the region's legal community to take advantage of the global event by actively participating in the annual conference through their involvement in various informative sessions and discussions, which she said provide an ideal platform for high-level exchanges, negotiations, networking and professional development.
Dr Abeer also said that the IBA Annual Conference, being held in the Middle East for the first time in the 64-year history of the Association, is an event not to be missed by the region's legal community.
The International Bar Association, established in 1947, is the world's leading organisation of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies. With a membership of more than 40,000 individual lawyers and 200 bar associations and law societies spanning all continents, the IBA influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world.
