Free Space Optics solutions is considered to be a viable approach for addressing the increasing needs of the emerging broadband networking access market especially in heavily populated urban environments.

"Broadband networking growth indicates greater consumer interest in e-commerce, streaming media and overall Internet content. As the demand for the Internet steadily grows, so does the need for broadband access. Fibre and copper network infrastructures simply cannot keep up with the demand. FSO solves a lot of the problems present with other broadband technologies. This technology solution bypasses the need to lay fibre or cables by using the atmosphere that is free space, rather than optical fibre to transmit the pulses of light that represent digital data. Al-Falak has partnered with PAV Data Systems to offer the FSO networking solution to the Saudi market as it is cost effective and can be deployed easily to address the varied networking needs of businesses in the region," said Amro Zarroug, Product Manager of Al-Falak.

"The potential for Free Space Optical networking to solve communications bottlenecks is making it a popular option for reliable, broadband access. PAV Data Systems is pleased to work closely with our regional partner Al-Falak to implement this first ever Free Space Optical solutions in a leading oil company. The solution will be used as the last mile communication for both voice and data," said Ayman Al Saffan,Territory Manager PAV Data Systems Ltd , Middle East & North Africa.

"PAV products are not only cost effective, but can be installed and operational in hours rather than days. Many of PAV's customers have found that the products are far less environmentally obtrusive than installing microwave radio equipment and often need no specific planning permission from local authorities. There are now thousands of PAV systems installed worldwide in more than 60 countries spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Far East, Australasia and North America," Al Saffan added.

FSO networking systems can function over distances of several kilometers, as long as there is a clear line of sight between the source and the destination, and enough transmitter power. Free Space Optics transmits invisible, eye-safe light beams from one telescope to another using low power infrared lasers in the teraHertz spectrum. The beams of light in FSO systems are transmitted by laser light focused on highly sensitive photon detector receivers. These receivers are telescopic lenses able to collect the photon stream and transmit digital data containing a mix of Internet messages, video images, radio signals or computer files.

With over 22 years of experience, Al-Falak offers complete end-to-end solutions tailor-made to suit all business requirements, be it a basic solution for a specific business need or a complete integrated enterprise wide solution. Al-Falak is well positioned to meet the requirements of the vertical and varied sectors of the IT industry in the GCC region, which has been growing exponentially in the recent years.
