- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, August 03 - 2003 at 14:23
- PRESS RELEASE
As a part of its drive to develop the talents of young UAE nationals, the Dubai-based Emirates Group is again providing them with a wide range of summer job opportunities.
The students, from the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, Government and private schools and universities across the UAE and abroad, are spending July and August on projects and assignments to benefit the Group, as well as gain practical knowledge in their continuing studies.
Abdulaziz Al Ali, the Group's Executive Vice-President Human Resources, said: "As a leading Dubai company making every effort to support the UAE community, we are dedicating resources and time to run this programme every year. This enables young UAE nationals to spend time with a successful organisation and gain wider experience of the world of work."
"This practical training is a vital part of our contribution to developing the country's national workforce, and we have a special section to recruit and develop UAE graduates and place them in jobs related to their skills and studies," Mr Al Ali said. "Our summer training programmes introduce trainees to the variety of careers they can pursue within the Emirates Group after they graduate and gives them an early understanding of what they could expect if they were to join us permanently.
"This year Emirates has already planned and budgeted to train no less than 270 UAE nationals in full-time positions, reflecting our strong commitment to national recruitment and the government's initiatives, as Emirates continues its dramatic global expansion. We run ongoing training for graduates, pilots, cabin crew, flight engineers and many other vital skills needed by the airline, and took part in last April's Careers UAE 2003 fair."

About Emirates:
Dubai-based Emirates Airline was established in 1985. It has received more than 250 international awards since its inception. In 2003 alone it has been voted Runner-Up Airline of the Year, Best Economy and Best Airline to the Middle East from Skytrax Research, and Passenger Service Airline of the Year from Air Transport World, USA, among others.
Emirates announced the largest order in aviation history at the recently concluded Paris Air Show, when it added 71 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft worth US$19 billion to its fast-growing fleet. It is now the main launch customer for two innovative ultra-modern aircraft - A340-600 HGW and A380 double-decker super-jumbos.
The airline's current fleet is comprised of 53 aircraft - a mix of Airbus A330-200s, Boeing 777-300s, 777-200s and 747-200/400Fs, with an average age of three years, the youngest in the skies. In 2006 Emirates will receive the first of 45 A380 double-decker super-jumbos on order, and over the next decade it expects to more than double its fleet size.
Financially independent, Emirates is among the world's fastest-growing airlines. It is also one of the world's five most profitable and 20 largest international airlines. It offers services to 68 cities in 48 countries in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Indian subcontinent and Asia-Pacific. It is set to inaugurate services to several new destinations this year - Auckland, Brisbane and Lagos, and non-stop flights to North America in April 2004.
Besides the airline, the Emirates Group includes Emirates Destination and Leisure Management, Emirates Holidays, Arabian Adventures, Al Maha Resort, Emirates SkyCargo, Dnata, Mercator, Transguard and Galileo.
