Canon's EOS-1Ds wins industry's highest accolade from pro imaging association

This award, coming only a few short months after this industry-redefining camera was launched in the Middle East, and is expected to stimulate even more interest by professional photographers in this region.

TIPA judges applauded the EOS 1Ds by saying it "establishes a new standard for digital SLR cameras. Using an 11.1 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor, the EOS 1Ds eclipses all previous SLRs in terms of image quality, while remaining fast and flexible in use. This high resolution image quality is combined with the highest standard of construction, providing photographers with a robust, durable, fully featured camera that can be used for virtually any task."

The EOS-1Ds is the world's first SLR camera to feature a full frame 35mm CMOS sensor, with 11.1 million effective pixels. The EOS-1Ds captures astounding detail and colour, almost doubling the resolution considered 'state of the art' for a digital SLR camera at the time of announcement.

A second award was announced for the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM. Because of its outstanding image quality, the TIPA jury also awarded Canon with the "Best Lens 2003/2004" award for the EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens.
