LG brings Digital Light Processing TV to Mid East
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, August 12 - 2003 at 10:45
- PRESS RELEASE
Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has brought the latest in digital screen technology to the Middle East with the launch of its first Digital Light Processing (DLP) projection TV screen.
"These tiny mirrors switch on and off up to 5,000 times a second enabling a clear, sharp picture that no CRT or PDP can generate," said Mr. S. S. Lee, Digital Display Product Manager, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
"With this technology, the screen produces the ultimate in screen quality with superior contrast and brightness and an extremely wide viewing angle.
"The DLP screen is suitable for both video and graphics. It is already enabled for high-definition digital TV signals and is ready for games, making it a true all-rounder in the large screen television stakes."
The technological innovation of DMD™ also meant a reduction in the number of component parts and the size of the cabinet required compared to a standard LCD or CRT projection TV.
"The unit LG has introduced has a 44-inch screen but it's just over 13-inches deep, which is less than a standard 14-inch CRT television," said Lee.
"In addition, the RL-44SZ20RD DLP weighs only 33-kilograms, making it easy to move and install and suitable for table-tops and desktops without needing any special reinforcement."
Lee explained the use of DMD™ also had benefits for screen longevity.
"One of the major advantages of the DLP screen technology is that there is no phosphor burn to the screen, lengthening its life expectancy to decades as opposed to years with CRT or LCD screens," he said.
"The combination of sharp, high definition images, long life and a slim, attractive design will change the public's perception of what a television should be.
"The future of this technology is something LG is focussing very carefully on."
DMD™ technology is also being developed for large screen uses too with movie theatres around the world adopting the format due to its clarity of image.
"LG Electronics is investing in research and development for DLP to ensure that across all screen technologies, LG is the leading light in innovation and product expansion," said Lee.
"Over the next 12 to 18-months, the technology will improve on the current contrast ratio of 1000:1 making the image reproduction even sharper.
"And, as the leader in television sales in the Middle East and Africa, LG Electronics will continue to develop and market TV screen technology that raises the standard and performs above expectations."
