- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, August 14 - 2003 at 13:19
- PRESS RELEASE
IBM has announced it is the number one server vendor in the world, according to recently released Gartner Dataquest Server Quarterly Statistics for the first quarter of 2003 as compared to the same quarter last year.
"This news is of particular interest to customers in the Middle East, where CIOs and IT directors have even more compelling evidence to support a decision to buy IBM. Not only are IBM's servers the most innovative in the industry, with a number of unique manageability and performance advantages, but a majority of customers around the world clearly share a common view: IBM servers are better," said Samer Shaar, General Manager of IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan.
According to Gartner, worldwide server revenue was down one percent in the first quarter compared to the same period a year earlier. Despite this, Gartner's analysis shows IBM increasing worldwide server revenues by 8 percent, a gain of 2.5 points of share over the same quarter a year earlier.
In UNIX servers, IBM was the only vendor in the top three to grow revenue. The Gartner study shows that IBM gained 5.7 points of share and grew revenue 19 percent in the first quarter based on year to year revenue growth.
According to Gartner, IBM grew worldwide Intel server revenue by 21 percent and gained 1.3 points of share in the first quarter as compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
Gartner also found that IBM was number one and the fastest growing in Linux servers with 32.4 percent worldwide revenue share, an increase of 1 point of share and 55 percent growth in the first quarter compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
