Hilton Kuwait Resort launches wireless internet access

August 1 sees a different kind of 'hotspot' hitting Kuwait. The Hilton Kuwait Resort just launched the first commercial wireless internet access network in Kuwait, creating 'hotspots' throughout the hotel's Grand Concourse, in the business centre and the Songbird Café, and pool-side at the main swimming pool.

"From now on, visitors and guests at the resort will be able to enjoy high-speed internet access in virtually all the ground floor public areas", explained general manager Paul Hutton. "Better still, they can access the internet where it's convenient for them - not for the person who installs wired connections."

The wireless connection system in the hotel was created and is managed by SmartLink. SmartLink is a Kuwait telecoms company that specialises in designing, selling and operating communications systems.

"Hotspots, WI-FI, wireless connectivity - whatever you want to call it - are important to travellers today and we're delighted to be able to work with such a good group of professionals and deliver another quality service", said Hutton. "This month I predict that Songbird will become the most popular area. But once the weather cools off a bit, won't it be nice to work by the pool?"

Many people already have laptops and PDAs equipped for WI-FI networks. All they will need to log on is a card similar to a prepaid phone card. Provisions have been made for guests interested in taking advantage of the flexibility offered by the hotspots, but with non-compatible computers. The resort will install the necessary Something in the guest's computer for the duration of the stay, allowing him or her to work while relaxing over a cup of coffee in the café or lounging by the pool.

"The first entity to introduce a new technology usually talks about it as 'the wave of the future'. Hotspots aren't the future; they're today and we expect others will follow our lead. But in the meantime, this is just another example of how the Hilton Kuwait Resort caters to the needs and wants of our guests", Hutton concluded.
