- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, August 21 - 2003 at 10:38
- PRESS RELEASE
As part of its ongoing commitment to the local community, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has hosted a group of UAE students who participated in the bank's 'Nawafeth' Summer Programme.
Commenting on the programme, Mr. Ahmed Al Sarkal, Manager, Human Resources, DIB, said: "The programme helps to enhance the role and the potential of the country's youth by giving them a realistic insight into a professional working environment. Nawafeth also helps to encourage them to think about how they can develop a career in either sector and gives us the chance to help identify young candidates who can make a contribution to the economic development of the emirate and the UAE."
The 'Nawafeth' programme incorporates visits to various public and private sector establishments including Dubai International Airport, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tanmia and the Al Thiqa Centre for the elderly and people with special needs. The programme also included a visit to DIB where each student was given a clear insight into the bank's scope of work and day-to-day operations.
Students visited the bank's main departments including the Central Operations Department, the Marketing Communications Department and the Cards Centre. They also visited a number of affiliate institutions such as Emirates Finance Company.
The Nawafeth programme follows the success of last year's summer programme. Its response was such that the bank decided to split this year's programme into two - Nawafeth and Iktisab, the later providing young UAE nationals with training and recruitment opportunities specifically related to Islamic banking.
Commenting on her participation in DIB's summer familiarisaiton programme, trainee Khaula Ahmed Al Shamsi, a student at Emirates University said: "Nawafeth gave me the opportunity to get a clear perspective on the real-life working environment and the various strategies and practices that large companies and corporations put in place. I now know a lot more about corporations and the way they do business."
