Reuters opens newsroom at the American University of Beirut

The American University of Beirut officially opened a Reuters Newsroom in collaboration with Reuters Foundation to provide a modern training facility for journalists in the Middle East.
This is the second partnership between Reuters Foundation and a distinguished university after setting up the flagship newsroom at Rhodes University in South Africa.
Geert Linnebank, Editor in Chief, Reuters said that Reuters views the newsroom project as a significant commitment in the Middle East to high-quality, independent journalism.
The American University of Beirut provides the premises and technical support and Reuters delivers the live news services for training.
Rafic Hariri, Lebanese Prime Minister described the project as a testimony to Lebanon's long-standing tradition of free press, a tribute to its vibrant democratic life as well as a source of power to Lebanon and the University.
John Waterbury, AUB President saw the project as a significant addition that will lead to new opportunities.
Reuters Foundation will use the newsroom to host four practical training courses each year. Newsroom facilities will be available to American University of Beirut students during term time.

The American University of Beirut is a private, independent, non-sectarian institution of higher learning, established in 1866, that functions under a charter from the State of New York. It is governed by an autonomous Board of Trustees of leading citizens of the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
