Korean and Taiwanese tech firms eye lucrative Middle East markets

Several Korean and Taiwanese companies that are eager to get a foothold in the region's expanding cable, satellite, broadcast and telecommunications sectors will participate in the 8th annual Middle East International Cable, Satellite, Broadcast and Telecommunications Exhibition (CABSAT) to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, March 5-7, 2002.
Many of the companies will feature their newest lines of set-top box products. ChainTech of Taiwan, one of the first Taiwanese vendor to begin routinely exporting these types of products to the Middle East region, will showcase an array of DVB satellite, cable and terrestrial receivers.
Meanwhile Taiwan-based ELANsat, which made its debut at CABSAT in 2001, will feature several new satellite products as well as new product lines, which incorporate wireless communications and digital technology at the exhibition. According to the company, its participation in CABSAT 2001 has enabled it to become one of the region's largest DiSEqc suppliers and it wants to further expand its presence here. Prime Electronics and Satellite, which specialises in LNBs and video senders says it too, expanded its presence in the region significantly through its participation in CABSAT 2001, and as a result it will be back in 2002 with a broader spectrum of products.
"We export numerous satellite products to the Middle East and we are in the process of broadening our product range. We will launch a 2.4 GHz wireless surveillance system at CABSAT and showcase our new line of DiSEqC switches and RF modulators," said a spokesperson for ELANsat.
Other Taiwanese companies to have a presence include G-Star Communications Inc., Jaeger Industrial Co. Ltd., Janky Technology, Jebsee Electronics, K-Best Technology, Moteck Electric Corp, TwinHan Technology, Winners Satellite Electronics and X-Winds Technology.
Among the participating companies from Korea will be Opentech Inc.. a newcomer to the region and the industry itself. Opentech began developing digital satellite receivers in February 2001. It will showcase its first four models (featuring FTA, FTA+ Positioner, CI, CI+Positioner), at CABSAT 2002 which are being marketed under the company's own brand name, Opentel.
Other Korean companies that will have a presence at CABSAT include Humax Co. Ltd., LG International, Samsung Corporation, AZ Technology Co. Ltd., Teletech Co. Ltd., Jung Woo Com Co. Ltd., Kaon Media Co. Ltd., Solarsat.com, DMSIS Co. Ltd., CKMT Co. Ltd., E-Rae Electronics, Freesat Korea, the Korean International Trade Association and Seodu Inchip Inc.
