The company announced the plans at the Glass, Ceramics, Minerals and Mining (GCMM) trade show, which ends a three-day run at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Tuesday night.

"This 300 square metre showroom comes as the company is experiencing huge demand to supply the many new projects coming up in the Emirates," said Hassan Mohammed, Managing Director, Al Choweifat Trading, a joint venture with Iran's Tooba Group. "Indeed demand is so strong we predict a doubling in turnover within a year."

Meanwhile GCMM visitors are registering strong demand for minerals from Iran, according to management of the web portal Businessdubai.com

The Dubai-Internet City hosted portal, operated by RC Holdings, used the show to launch its new online minerals section.

"The site is an introduction between customers and manufacturers," said Dr. A. K. Mathur, Director Marketing, Businessdubai.com. "We have received excellent response for minerals from Iran."

Since launching its new on-line product sourcing, RC Holdings says it has facilitated contracts and has many buyers now sampling and testing products offered through the site.

"Though minerals are now products that can be sold over the net, we are doing well and have created a true business medium for people involved in the industry. Once initial needs are satisfied it is relatively safe to do business over the net, it is also cost-effective and clients get better exposure," added Dr. Mathur.

Meanwhile India's Electro Magnetic Industries, which manufactures and supplies electro magnetic separators and vibratory equipment, said it has an order show intake of around US $62,000 having achieved a GCC market breakthrough at GCMM.

"Around 99 per cent of the enquiries we've received at this show will amount to business," said R. B. Patel, Director, Electro Magnetic Industries. "Though we already deal with some Middle East markets, specifically Iran, we had never done business with the Gulf states and have managed to gain business there thanks to the show."

GCMM, which has been expanded for the first time to include the minerals and mining sectors, is organised by International Expo-Consults (IEC).

Making their Middle East debuts at the show are the Italian glass-processing machinery and accessories suppliers' association (GIMAV) and The Canadian Association Of Mining Equipment and Services For Export - the national voice of Canada's mining industry.

South Africa's Council for Geoscience, one of the world's top geological organisations, is also at GCMM in a bid to develop ties between the Gulf's burgeoning mining sector and the South African Development Community (SADC) countries.
