LG USD 30,000 Cyber Cup ends on a high

  • PRESS RELEASE

The battle to find the UAE's ultimate Cyber Warriors for 2003 is over after two thrilling finals were settled at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai.

The tournament, which boasted a prize fund of US $30,000, centred around two of cyber world's most popular games in Sierra's multi-player Half Life - 'Counter Strike' and Microsoft's 'Age Of Mythology.' 'Counter Strike' was played by teams of five while 'Age of Mythology' was the game for individuals.

The final of 'Age Of Mythology' saw Mohammed Ismail take on Aahmed Saeed. Each match was played as strategically as a game of chess, as both men showed their skill and experience in competing in the popular game that sees role-playing in one of nine ancient civilisations.

In the end, Ismail proved too good for Saeed and scored the better round to take the trophy, US$2500 prize money and the title for 2003.

In the team event, playing 'Counter-Strike', UnreaL.GNC took the top prize after a mammoth struggle against fellow finalists, M[y]Th.GNC. The UnreaL.GNC clan of Ahmad Naqib (leader), Abdullah Bin Kenaid, Fairooz Norbyad, Salem Sultan and Saeed Al Kaily won prize money of US$2500 per player and the spectacular LG Cyber-Cup 2003 trophy.

"The LG Cyber Cup tournament has been extremely well organised this year, in an excellent arena that provided the right surroundings to be able to concentrate on the matches," said Ahmad Naqib, leader of the UnreaL.GNC clan.

"The LG PC systems were excellent and the organisation from Game Frontier was terrific.

"We'll be back next year and hope that LG decides to run the tournament in 2004 as a qualifier for a global LG Cyber-Cup."

In response, Mr. P. C. Choi, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE said that this year's tournament had been such a success that discussions would be held to see how the championships could be evolved for 2004.

"We planned to make the championship very much a spectator event this year," explained Choi. "The tournament was a tremendous success among the UAE's gaming community and we will continue to make the championship an annual event.

"The tournament also reflects LG's desire to be known as a leader in the I.T. products field, particularly in light of the recent introduction into the Middle East of LG PCs and notebooks. Cyber gamers demand the very highest specification products and LG can meet their needs.

"For the LG Cyber Cup 2003 we provided a gaming interaction concept that was technically and visually superior to anything seen here before and it can only get better."
