  • PRESS RELEASE

SmartCity Kochi board members met to discuss and set the timeline for the development and realisation of the self-sustained industry township for knowledge-based companies. Board members also discussed plans for the project's first building and the appointment of the development's master planner and cost consultant. Both will have key roles in shaping one of India's largest business parks.

The meeting coincided with the ground-breaking ceremony for the SmartCity Kochi Sales Pavilion, which was presided over by His Excellency Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister and Chief Parton of the State of Kerala in India, in the presence of Abdullatif AlMulla, Group CEO, TECOM Investments, and Vice-Chairman of SmartCity, and P. K. Kunhalikutty, Minister for Industries of Kerala.

Held on-site at SmartCity Kochi, the milestone event was attended by a number of state ministers, government officials and TECOM Investments officials.

Construction of the 6,000 square feet SmartCity Kochi Sales Pavilion is scheduled to be completed within four months. The completion of the Pavilion will coincide with the recruitment of the SmartCity Kochi management team that will implement the project on the ground.

His Excellency Oommen Chandy said, "SmartCity is not merely an IT project, but a major initiative with unique features that can create substantial employment and nurture Kerala's economy to the next level of growth. This should send an important message that Kerala is highly investor-friendly and major projects can happen in the state. SmartCity will be followed by many such mega projects."

The SmartCity Kochi Sales Pavilion will house the project's management office and provide premium support services. It will also highlight futuristic and practical SmartCity business and lifestyle concepts, which will make SmartCity Kochi an attractive business destination for local, regional and international companies.

Abdullatif AlMulla, Group CEO, TECOM Investments, said: "Today is a significant milestone celebrating the construction of the SmartCity Kochi Sales Pavilion. The vision of SmartCity and the Government of Kerala is now a reality. In the coming years, this self-sustaining township will become one of Kerala's economic pillars as it harnesses the expected increasing demands for ICT and media-driven services."

SmartCity Kochi is expected to generate approximately 90,000 jobs, potentially transforming Kerala into an investment destination of choice.
