Three quarters of its inhabitants are living in the Capital, and it was known as "French Somalia" before it became independent from France in 1977, then following that it joined the Arab League. Basically, its economy is connected with offering services related to its strategic location as a Duty Free area in East North of Africa. It imports most of its food from abroad, as rainfall is enough for planting some vegetables and fruits. Therefore, it depends mostly on its activity as a transit port for the region, and an international stop station for cargo operations and fueling.
