Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global specialist in digital media and digital convergence technologies, has revealed new figures highlighting a staggering 50% month-on-month growth in GCC sales of its Smart TVs since the product's regional launch just six months ago. During that time, the company has secured a whopping 45% market share in the GCC's smart TV market—making Samsung Smart TVs the fastest selling TV range in its category according to industry reports.

In the first half of 2011, Samsung introduced the full range of its latest generation of Smart TVs across the Gulf region. Samsung Smart TV sales have since accounted for approximately 30% of Samsung's total LED TV sales during the last six months, indicating high interest amongst regional customers for the smart services and applications developed to date.

"Packed with advanced features and technologies such as Smart 3D and Smart Design, Samsung's Smart TV range delivers the most enhanced viewing experience offering both product convenience and enriched content," notes Mr. Vinod Nair, General Manager of TV Business, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

"As sales continue to grow dramatically, Samsung has clearly proven its understanding of what consumers are looking for when it comes to purchasing TVs. Today's consumer is seeking stylish designs, outstanding picture quality and smart features that allow viewers to enjoy a quality home entertainment experience."

Samsung is currently working with a variety of companies in the region to offer region-specific Smart TV applications and content for its viewers. In the UAE for instance, Samsung recently partnered with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to launch the Smart TV DEWA application which allows users to check and pay their bills. Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) has also partnered with Samsung in streaming all its TV channels through a custom application available across 24 countries including the GCC, Levant, North Africa and Turkey.

On a regional level, Samsung recently launched the YuppTV application which gives users access to more than 60 Indian TV channels—many provided for free—available in a variety of international languages and dialects.

With similar initiatives already in the pipeline and a continued focus on technology innovation, Samsung's Smart TVs are expected to become even more advanced as the company's current 200 applications is set to nearly double in size by the end of 2011.
Samsung SMART TVs now account for more than 30% of company's regional LED TV sales.
