- PRESS RELEASE
Diplomats and representatives of diplomatic missions in the UAE were briefed, at the Dubai International Airport, on the steps they need to follow to meet and greet their national delegates arriving for the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and IMF. The briefing was led by the head of the Dubai 2003 Administrative Services and Public Relations Committee, Mr. Obaid Salem Al Shamsi.
The diplomatic personnel were briefed on procedures and facilities in the airport, and they were guided on how to escort the VIP when he or she arrives. During the passport control procedures, there are waiting rooms set up that VIPs can use for privacy and security. Airport staff have also been briefed that they should extend all possible benefits and courtesies to visitors during the Annual Meetings.
The diplomats were taken on a tour of the airport to familiarise themselves, and were guided through the steps that they need to take to welcome their delegates.
The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund were first held in Washington DC in 1946. They are hosted by an international city one year in three. The UAE and Dubai were selected because of their highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure, growing importance as a financial hub and its established position as an oasis of opportunity.
