  • PRESS RELEASE

The Communication Centre within the Dubai International Convention Centre has opened for business, and is ready to handle the communication needs of the participants who will be in town to attend the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the IMF.

From this Centre, participants can buy or rent mobile phones with SIM cards, laptop computers with software and hardware options as well as pre-paid calling and Internet access cards. For sale are accessories like CD packs and web-cameras, and also the popular Palm organisers. The Communication Centre is also responsible for the setting up of 38 PCs across the Convention Centre, from which delegates can access their email and schedule of events. Participants with laptops can also access a wireless network within the Convention Center.

The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund were first held in Washington DC in 1946. They are hosted by an international city one year in three. The UAE and Dubai were selected because of their highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure, growing importance as a financial hub and its established position as an oasis of opportunity.
