- United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 15 - 2003 at 09:54
- PRESS RELEASE
HH Lt. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, HE Saeed Al Baadi, Minister of Interior, UAE, and Maj. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Undersecretary, Ministry of Interior, visited the Dubai International Convention Centre.
The Organising Committee assembled for their regular meeting after the visit, and this meeting is in the last week before the commencement of the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
HE Qassim Sultan, addressing the meeting, said, "I appreciate the efforts taken by the leaders of the nation to involve themselves personally in the preparations and arrangements for the Meetings. We welcome the visits of Their Highnesses and His Excellency to review our efforts for the world's largest gathering of the financial community. We are confident that our efforts will prove that we have done our roles in the best possible way."
"This on-site review is nothing new here in the UAE. The involvement of the leaders is what has brought this country to where it is today. At the most crucial periods, they are there personally to encourage all those working for the success of the event", he added.
The Organising Committee discussed and reviewed the latest in terms of arrangements for the arrival of the delegates, who will start arriving in the country soon. All the arrangements for both official and private delegates were scrutinised by the Committee at the Meeting.
The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund were first held in Washington DC in 1946. They are hosted by an international city one year in three. The UAE and Dubai were selected because of their highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure, growing importance as a financial hub and its established position as an oasis of opportunity.
