- PRESS RELEASE
At Thursday conference titled "Improvement of sustainability in architectural paints & coatings formulations" in Dubai, Wacker, the Munich-based chemicals Group, received an appreciation certificate presented by Dubai Municipality.
Last month, Wacker has trained at its premises 10 employees of Dubai's Technical Central Laboratory on testing dry mortar mixtures. The conference in Dubai's Palace Hotel assembled paints and construction manufacturers to learn more about sustainable building products and technologies.
For the first time, Dubai Municipality has set up a conference for manufacturers of paints and construction materials to learn more about environmentally friendly, low emission technologies and products in modern construction. During the event, Du-bai Municipality explained green building regulations related to architectural paints and coatings. In the course of the conference, Dubai Municipality presented the ap-preciation certificate to acknowledge Wacker's role in sponsoring such events on sustainability.
Wacker's solutions for environmentally sound construction comprise its VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (VAE) dispersion technology which enables the formulation of high quality, low odor paints containing a minimum of vo-latile organic compounds (VOC). The products are manufactured without the use of formaldehyde donors, defoamers or alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO) and thus keep with the trend toward construction products with a lower environmental impact. Fur-thermore, Wacker's unique technical center Dubai along with the company's local training facility offers practical advice on problems relating to construction chemicals and helps customers and partners to implement international environmental and safety standards.
Cyril Cisinski, Managing Director of Wacker Chemicals Middle East, commented: "We are very proud of this appreciation. It shows that sustainable development is the basis of Wacker's long-term business success. With our comprehensive know-how and expertise in construction chemicals, Wacker is ready to support local au-thorities as well as customers and partners in finding the right products and stan-dards to improve sustainability, reduce the environmental impact and increase overall energy efficiency, as we have already successfully done in other countries."
VINNAPAS dispersions are popular binders for the construction and coatings in-dustries, particularly in architectural coating formulations where low odor and envi-ronmentally friendly solutions are required. VINNAPAS dispersions are further used in paints, plasters, engineered fabrics and nonwovens, and as binders in po-lymer materials based on renewable resources. Besides, Wacker offers advanced products for energy-efficient construction solutions, such as dispersible polymer powders for exterior thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) or silicone resin emulsion paints for insulating effects of masonry. Dispersible polymer powders or silicone resins can further be used to prevent water damages or water losses, to name just a few applications.
Wacker set up a local subsidiary (Wacker Chemicals Middle East) in Dubai back in 2000 and has been operating its own sales office there since then. A technical cen-ter has been available to regional customers and partners since 2002. In spring 2010, the company added a training center for construction chemicals. From Dubai, the subsidiary serves customers from the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East and Africa.
