Mid East press sees Arab Media Summit 2003 as platform to air Arab perspective

All major newsgroups from the print and broadcast sectors in the Middle East will be represented at the Arab Media Summit 2003 which will be held in Dubai on October 7th and 8th.

"We have received confirmation from all major media institutions in the Arab world, and are pleased at the response, which is of a very high level indeed. We are expecting the Editor-in-chiefs and other top Editorial personnel from all major Arab newsgroups to be here for the Summit next month," said Mohammed Al Mansoori, Deputy Manager of Dubai Press Club, which is hosting of Event.

"The entire range of the regional press - from pan-Arab institutions such as Ibrahim Nafee, Editor-in-Chief of Al Ahram, Egypt; Salah Eldin Hafez, General Secretary of Federation of Arab Journalists, Egypt; George Samaan, Editor-In-Chief of London based Al Hayat Newspaper; Talal Salman, Editor-in-Chief, Al Safir, Lebanon; George Hawatmeh, Editor-in-Chief of Al Rai, Jordan; Osama Al Sharif, Editor-in-Chief of Al Dastoor, Samir Attalla and Ahmed Al Rabee, respected Columnists of London based Al Sharq Al Awsat."

Media personalities from the Gulf include Mohammed Abdul Qader, Editor-in-Chief of Al Watan, Kuwait; Ahmed Jarallah, Editor-in-Chief, Al Siyasah Kuwait; Mohammed Jasim Al Saqer, Chairman of Al Qabas; Abdul Latif Al Mahmoud, Editor-in-Chief of Al Sharq, Qatar; Ahmad Ali Mohammed, Editor-in-Chief, Al Watan, Qatar; Ibrahim bin Abdullah, Editor-in-Chief, Oman Newspaper.

"From Arabic television channels Mohammed Nasser Al Sanousi, Kuwait TV Presenter, has confirmed participation along with Gissle Khouri of Al Arabia TV and Mohammed Haidar, Director of Al Manar TV."

"Leading lights of the Arab press have informed that they see the Arab Media Summit as a key platform to broadcast the Arab perspective to the world - especially in the presence of leading Western journalists who can understand the Arab position and spread the message through their respective media," Al Mansoori said.

The Arab Media Summit, held every year in Dubai, is designed to open channels for dialogue between the Arab and Western media so as to promote a better understanding of each other.

"Our aim is to bring the best possible speakers to the region to stimulate discussion and new directions of thought in an open and candid environment," Al Mansoori added.

More than 500 Editors-in-Chief of major Arabic and International print and broadcast media, leading journalists, columnists, academics, analysts, commentators and senior government officials will attend the Arab Media Summit 2003 which will be held at Madinat Jumeirah - latest addition to Dubai's luxury sector.
