Dubai's Heritage and Diving Village which displays traditional arts and crafts and recreates Dubai of yesteryear, will make its exhibition debut with a cultural presence at Ambiente Arabia, the international gifts and homeware show being held at Airport Expo' next month.

"We are proud of our culture and heritage and the best way to preserve this is through active promotion and participation," said Ahmad Al Wardi, Tourist Guide and Diving Village. "We aim to encourage boys and girls to learn traditional handicrafts so that they can pass them on to the next generation, we see ourselves as the custodians of our culture."

Heritage and Diving Village under the umbrella of the Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM), provides visitors with a comprehensive history of Dubai from the sea to the desert, from their Bedouin roots to the modern Dubai we see today and allows them to experience the warmth of our hospitality which has prevailed throughout the ages.

"We want to welcome all visitors to Dubai and show them traditional Arabian hospitality, some visitors have a rather negative impression of the region, we aim to change those perceptions," said Abdulla Hamdan Bin Dalmook, Senior Manager at Heritage and Diving Village.

"We want visitors to experience our unique culture, and leave with a better appreciation of the way we live and the aspects that have shaped the Dubai that we live in today," he concluded.

At Ambiente Arabia, which will be held at Airport Expo', from 6th - 9th October, Heritage and Diving Village will screen a specially prepared video of Dubai through the ages and will also conduct live demonstrations of handicrafts such as weaving. During the daily children's show, youngsters will be able to practice these ancient skills at first hand and on the last day of the show, a traditional local band will perform for visitors and exhibitors alike.

"We were aware that many overseas countries would be exhibiting their arts and crafts at Ambiente Arabia and we thought that it was appropriate for us to increase the awareness of our culture and heritage especially to those visiting Dubai for the first time," concluded Al Wardi.

The exhibition, organised by IIR Exhibitions and Conferences, will run along side its sister show Motexha the fashion and retail event.
