- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, September 25 - 2003 at 09:07
- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai 2003 Organising Committee has held its last but one official evaluation meeting, attended by the Heads and members of the various committees.
Qassim Sultan, Head of the Organising Committee and Director General, Dubai Municipality, thanked the heads and members of each committee that has been so diligent in carrying out their tasks. He acknowledged the efforts put in by each member of the staff, and said that everyone should be proud when the guests and delegates appreciate the efforts and arrangements. "We aimed to promote a good image about our country and we have succeeded in this effort", he said.
He said, " It is the cooperation between the sectors that has made this event such a huge success. Teamwork and the pursuit of excellence are the underlying qualities that have driven this organisation so far, and it is this that has made the delegates and guests so appreciative of what they're seeing here. This is praise and encouragement enough for us to always continue in this manner, whatever the event. We believe ourselves to be ambassadors of our country and we look forward to being assigned to many more such projects."
Qassim Sultan has requested project reports from heads and members of committees and even the volunteer hosts who were dealing with delegates and guests on a daily basis. He called for the reports to list positive as well as negative feedback and experiences.
The first meeting of the Organising Committee was held on 22nd October 2000, and the final meeting will be held on the 25th of October 2003. This meeting will bring to a close the concentrated efforts and work of three years.
The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund were first held in Washington DC in 1946. They are hosted by an international city one year in three. The UAE and Dubai were selected because of their highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure, growing importance as a financial hub and its established position as an oasis of opportunity.
