Gulftainer sets sail with Pearl Initiative

Gulftainer,the world's largest privately-owned port operator,has agreed to be a Founding Partner of Pearl Initiative, the private-sector led initiative set up in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Partnerships to foster a culture of transparency, accountability, good corporate governance and best business practices in the Arab world.

Gulftainer, which was established in the United Arab Emirates in 1976, is a key partner for Pearl Initiative, and a company with an international presence and stellar reputation. Within the UAE, its remit now includes the Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) and Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT) as well as port operations in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. Gulftainer, via Momentum also operates logistics throughout the region. The company's international presence is significant, and includes Kuwait, Turkey, Pakistan, Iraq, Russia and Brazil with other new ventures under development.

Gulftainer has always maintained the highest standards of ethics, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. The company is committed to conduct its business legally, fairly, honestly and with transparency and integrity. Gulftainer Managing Director Peter Richards is delighted about the new partnership. Pearl Initiative which had its soft launch at the UN headquarters in September 2010,is a growing regional membership network of business leaders committed to driving joint action and sharing knowledge and experience in areas of transparency, governance and good practices. Pearl Initiative programs are underway on collaborative action to fight bribery and corruption, as well as making progress in areas such as good governance, integrated reporting and corporate disclosure in the GCC.
