Dubai Refreshments, the sole franchisee and distributor for PepsiCo for Dubai and the Northern emirates, initiated the project to lay the foundations for a secure IT environment before setting in motion plans for the implementation of a company-wide ERP system, explained G. V. Rao, IT Manager at Dubai Refreshments.
SIPS undertook the project in two phases, said Naresh Kothari, Managing Director, Intertec Systems. Phase I consisted of an enterprise security audit, which entailed a detailed security assessment of all Dubai Refreshments' IT assets. At the end of this, a comprehensive report was tabled to the management to assist in the preparation of a plan of action and also to aid in defining the organisation's security policies.
Security enforcement services constituted the second phase of the project and involved the implementation and configuration of the rules on the firewall, web and e-mail filtering, configuration of the proxy services, implementation of the anti-virus gateway and the establishment of policies on the same. This was followed up by a post-vulnerability assessment to ensure that gaps threatening the security of the company's IT infrastructure were successfully sealed.
The end result is Dubai Refreshments has an infrastructure security system in place which is based on best practices, said Kothari. 'Moreover, discovering the vulnerabilities on an ongoing basis and selecting appropriate proactive and reactive safeguards will enable the company to focus on core activities.'
