  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, January 22 - 2012 at 12:57
  • PRESS RELEASE

Decide Diabetes Programme will run an awareness and screening campaign for diabetes during the AlBatha Learning Festival 2012. Decide is a not-for-profit programme under the umbrella of the AlBatha healthcare group Modern Pharmaceutical Company (MPC).

The programme aims to promote better understanding of diabetes and greater awareness of the condition that could lead to successful prevention and management of diabetes.

As part of the educational sessions, on 21st of January 11am, Dr. Wafaa Helmi Ayesh, Director of the Clinical Nutrition Department of the Dubai Health Authority, together with Jan Felton, Decide Spokesperson and Managing Director of MPC held keynote speeches for the event discussing topics on 'My Plate Planner' and lifestyle change to live life to the full with diabetes respectively.

The UAE has the second highest rate of diabetes cases worldwide with 25 per cent of the population diagnosed with the condition. The Decide Diabetes Programme aims to help lower this rate through informed decisions and healthy lifestyle options.

"Decide helps to support medical community by creating a change in patient's behavior outside the clinic where diabetes actually happens. It could be at home, cinema, university, work, restaurant, or anywhere in daily life. It's not an easy task and it is remarkably challenging, which is why Decide is a long term programme which involves major companies who care for community's well fare. These Decide partners, AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, LifeScan, Medtronic, Merck Serono, MPC, Nestlé Health Science, and Servier have all joined hands to fulfill the mission of Decide programme" Felton shares.

During the event, Decide will hold free diabetes screenings, lectures, quizzes and competitions for all AlBatha attendees. Decide is an innovative and unique programme of major healthcare companies in the UAE that aims to educate, raise awareness, provide support to help patients and health care professionals to find new ways to increase compliance in patients as its major hurdle in successfully treating diabetes.
AlBatha Learning Festival 2012 is spearheaded by AlBatha Group as it takes the next step to promote a learning culture within its operating groups and companies.
