Organised by the Gold and Jewellery Group Dubai, the delegation was headed by Mr. Paresh Dhanak, Honourer Treasurer of the Group, and included 14 top Dubai jewellery traders.

Taking place from September 17th to 21st, the fair ranks among the top three events on the international jewellery calendar, attracting more than 30,000 visitors from 100 countries/regions.

'This is the biggest jewellery fair in Asia,' said Mr. Dhanak. 'In fact, it is the biggest pearl fair and the second biggest diamond and gemstone fair in the world. As Dubai grows in reputation as the Middle East capital of gold and jewellery, our traders constantly endeavour to stay on top of the latest trends around the world.'

'The trip built on the success of our March delegation and increased ties with Hong Kong and China, which has become one of the fastest growing manufacturers in the world, particularly with the recent liberalisation of jewellery marketing there. These trade ties will help Dubai retain its edge as a leading market for gold and jewellery.'

'The Hong Kong Jewellery and Jade Manufacturers Association sent a strong delegation to IJD in April 2003,' he added, 'despite the twin disruptions of the SARS virus and war in Iraq, underlining the strong relations between our two groups. This year, we are encouraging members of the association to attend International Jewellery Dubai (IJD) 2004.'

'We are additionally gratified that we could make such progress in regards to our upcoming conference, as there was a lot of interest expressed in sponsoring and attending different modules.'

'As one of the top three trade events in the world, this fair was an excellent opportunity for us to meet manufacturers, particularly of diamonds and gemstones,' said Mr. CP Ranjit, CEO of Alukkas, one of the delegates to the fair. ' As well as discovering the latest trends in gemstones, we can see how to implement new ideas on a retail and macro level in our stores.'

Mr. Anurag Sinha of Al Liali Jewellers agreed. 'The fair enabled me to make contacts with new designers, get new lines, and make sure that I don't miss out on any interesting concepts in the market. The Hong Kong fair is by far the most important one in Asia.'

An association of more than 475 gold and jewellery outlets in Dubai, the Gold and Jewellery Group is responsible for promoting and improving the gold and jewellery trade in Dubai.
