Secured Shredding Services works towards building a green future

As part of its commitment towards educating the public on to the perils of inadequate information security while promoting responsible environmental stewardship, and offering the most reliable and sustainable solutions to dispose unwanted and obsolete records, the Secured Shredding Services, first professional secure information destruction and paper waste management service provider in Oman, participated actively in the recent held KOM in Green initiative.

According to Wissam Ayoub, Executive Director at the Secured Shredding Services, a part of "ARAD" group of companies, "The KOM in Green initiative, which was launched by the Knowledge Oasis Muscat, has played a vital role in spreading awareness and educating the public on the benefits of waste management in general.

The initiative to include college students was a very smart step as we believe environmental awareness must start with education. The reaction that both college students' had shown was overwhelming.

The excitement we felt from the students and the efforts they made proved to us that, there is an aware generation that is worried and eager to take care of the environment in Oman in the very near future. At SSS, we assisted with the logistics of the campaign by providing collection containers and collecting the waste paper. We also provided the results and the statistics for each college."

Commenting on the current initiatives undertaken by the Sultanate with regard to conserving the environment, Ayoub said, "The tremendous efforts carried out by the Sultanate towards a healthy and clean environment are among the finest and the best in the GCC region. In fact, it is very visible how the Government, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, is not lagging any effort to maintain cleanliness and beauty of the environment not only in Muscat, but all around Oman. We can also feel the efforts of various governmental institutes to involve the public through various environmental awareness campaigns to stimulate individual social responsibilities towards their country and the environment in order to achieve a sustainable future."

Ayoub informed of another campaign on a larger scale, which the company will announce its details once it materializes in the very near future.

"We have many plans in the pipeline, and we are working together, hand in hand with numerous governmental organizations and private establishment to offer as much as possible, services that are environmentally friendly, economical and sustainable for the greater benefit of future generations," he added.

The company has also concluded a project with CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company Oman L.L.C) which approached SSS to handle the secured and onsite destruction of its archive files. The contents of about 17,000 box files were shredded on location by the company's Shredding Truck.

The total weight of these files amounted to almost 30 Tons of paper. All the paper shreds were baled and shipped to paper recycling mills to get recycled.

Such a volume indirectly helped saving approximately 720 trees, 900,000 Liters of Water, 510 Million BTUs of energy, and directly saved Oman's environment 30 tons of solid waste that would have ended up in the landfills.
