- PRESS RELEASE
Philips announced its new FlatTV range of television sets, including plasma screens with the award-winning Pixel Plus technology and brilliant-colour LCD models, to meet the growing Middle East consumer demand for flat, slim and wide TVs.
"For the past six years Philips has drawn on its strengths in display technologies to continuously build its FlatTV family, which today offers discerning consumers the best in picture quality, contemporary set design and versatility," said Bernard Chan Senior Director and General Manager, Singapore & Export Asia, Middle East & Africa, Philips Consumer Electronics.
"Led by the breathtaking difference in image definition from Pixel Plus, Philips' flat Plasma and LCD TVs bring the home entertainment experience alive with sharper images and more natural colours," he added.
The new line includes plasma Pixel Plus TVs, including the 42-inch (106cm) model which won the European Plasma Television of the Year 2003-2004 award, and the 50-inch (127cm), 37-inch (94cm) and 32-inch (81cm) models. Other widescreen models include the 30- inch LCD FlatTV, 23-inch (58cm) LCD FlatTV , 17-inch (45cm) LCD FlatTV
Rounding out the range are small-screen LCD models in 20-inch (51cm) and 15-inch (40cm) versions and portable LCD models in 13-inch, 15-inch and 20-inch sizes.
Philips' application of Pixel Plus in the FlatTV format builds on the recognition bestowed upon this advanced technology introduced successfully in widescreen tube-based TV sets in 2002. By almost doubling the number of lines and increasing by 2.8 times the pixels per line, Pixel Plus creates visibly higher definition and enhanced, more natural picture detail by improving pixel quality.
The Philips FlatTV range combines the clear ergonomic benefits of flat, slim and wide and the most advanced display technologies available today in consumer electronics. Philips FlatTVs boast perfect picture geometry and wide viewing angles - more than 160 degrees horizontal and vertical - to ensure perfect viewing from anywhere in the room.
Philips employs plasma display panels for its FlatTV screen sizes - ranging from 32-inch and above - providing the best solution for larger displays to deliver sharp, flicker-free images with wide viewing angles and outstandingly bright colours.
For FlatTV screen sizes below 30-inch, Philips applies its strengths in liquid crystal displays, a leadership supported by the LG-Philips LCD joint venture, currently the world's leading supplier of thin-film-transistor (TFT) LCD technology.
The seven LCD sets in the 2003 Philips FlatTV range use the very latest active matrix display technology, providing superior levels of sharpness and brightness unmatched by other technologies in comparable screen sizes.
