BMW X5 security makes Middle East debut at Abu Dhabi Security and Safety Exhibition
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, October 04 - 2003 at 11:58
- PRESS RELEASE
The BMW X5 Security, the German premium car maker's first Security Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), will make its Middle East debut at the Security and Safety Middle East 2003 Exhibition and Conference that opens in Abu Dhabi on October 5th, 2003.
A BMW 330i Security will also be at the Exhibition as part of an outdoor demonstration.
The BMW X5 Security is the German premium car maker's first SAV certified to the international B4 armouring level. It is intended specifically for markets where an SAV offers clear advantages featuring the new xDrive all-wheel-drive system and ample ground clearance. The comfortable BMW X5 Security offers a very wide range of useful applications.
"The X5 Security is BMW's answer to the growing worldwide problem of violence and criminal threats involving carjacking and kidnapping," said Robert Zarzour, Regional Manager, Middle East and Africa, BMW Group.
"The BMW X5 Security offers protection up to .44 Magnum revolver ammunition and other hand-held weapons in accordance with the official standards of the B4 armouring level," added Zarzour.
The BMW X5 Security is equipped with special bullet resistant materials and safety features including windows made of composite glass and plastic layers with splinter protection on the inside. Built-in security also eliminates potential weak spots such as gaps in the body, door joints, cable ducts or the transitions from metal to glass components.
The BMW 330i Security vehicle, that made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show last March, also complies with the B4 bullet-resistant standard. Reflecting customers' needs for absolute discretion the vehicle hardly differs from its regular production counterpart.
"In contrast to production cars retrofitted with armouring, the special features on BMW's Security cars are built by the most highly skilled craftsmen and are integrated in the car right from the beginning. In addition, the vehicles are developed and adapted to the increase in weight to ensure that the highest BMW standards with regards to handling, performance and reliability are maintained," said Zarzour.
