European Motors looks at the future with the introduction of the all-new 2012 Peugeot 508

The latest addition is being displayed during the Muscat Festival at Qurum Natural Park for visitors to get firsthand experience of this stylish, innovative and luxuriously appointed vehicle and to sample a flavour of the French style and culture behind this new executive saloon.

Architectural efficiency means the 508 comes with a long wheelbase (+ 92mm compared to the 407), reduced front overhang (- 43mm compared to the 407) and a longer rear overhang. All these revisions have helped create generous space for passengers in the cabin.

The car seems to have been chiseled from a solid block and the dynamic and balanced looks of the 508 is a direct result of the revised proportions and styling inspiration from the SR1 concept car with the new Lion badge.

Character lines dominate the sheet metal and follow Peugeot's new styling direction. Bi-xenon directional headlamps add a touch of sophistication and so do the three prominent red claws mask three rows of LEDs at the rear.

"The Peugeot 508 shows the development of the brand's underlying stylistic codes, reinterpreted to reflect ideas brought to fruition on the most recent concept cars (particularly the SR1). This visual identity, strong and always recognisable, is even more suggestive of power, refinement and technological modernity," added Mr. Seshadri.

Peugeot has used weight saving aluminium extensively in the 508's construction without compromising on safety or styling. Everyday practicality comes hand in hand with class leading aerodynamics inside out.

Advanced features include Open & Go system which automatically allows the customer/owner [while being within the electronic zones] to unlock the car and start the engine without physically taking the key out of the pocket.

The car's interior is simple and elegant, typical of Peugeot. Meticulous attention has been paid into build quality, fit, finish and type of materials used. Modern conveniences include colour "heads-up display", four-zone air-conditioning and supersized 545-litre cargo space which can be increased to 1,865 litres with rear seats folded, more than enough for four travelers with luggage.

The 508 is being offered to customers in the Sultanate with class leading and efficient power train technologies including turbo charging. The high pressure turbo charged engine offers maximum output of 154bhp and maximum torque 240Nm when mated to six-speed automatic transmission. With this package the car's 0-100km/h sprint timing is 9.2sec and top speed is 217km/h.

An impressive list of standard executive class features on the 508 are offered which include keyless entry, electric adjustable and heated front seats, heads-up display, 18-inch alloy wheels, high-end sound system and satellite navigation.
