EMAAR sponsors teams to compete in UAE Wooden Powerboat Championship
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, October 05 - 2003 at 10:13
- PRESS RELEASE
EMAAR Properties, developers of the landmark Dubai Marina waterfront project, is sponsoring five teams to compete in this season's UAE Wooden Powerboat Race Championship.
Emphasising the company's commitment to waterfront living and creating a waterfront lifestyle, Mansour Al Othaimin, Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing, EMAAR Properties said: "Wooden boats are a feature of the UAE's rich heritage. EMAAR is pleased to be able to support the preservation of this tradition and to help promote the spirit of sporting competition among UAE citizens."
"Dubai Marina is all about waterfront living and water activities. It is therefore a natural progression for EMAAR to be involved in boating events. The essence of this community is the 3.5 km tidal water channel, which starts at DIMC and ends at the Sheraton hotel, connecting this exclusive high-rise community with the Arabian Gulf," he added.
Commenting on EMAAR's sponsorship, team leader Abdulla Alnoobi Yousif said: "We are so grateful for EMAAR's support. Without their financial assistance we would not have been able to complete the season. We reach up to 110km an hour on a straight and the dhows take a severe beating. We have to fix and replace boat and engine parts after each race."
EMAAR is sponsoring boats numbered 4,17,19,23 and 30 to compete in the 45-minute wooden powerboat race just offshore from DIMC. Boat 4 is crewed by Abdulla Alnoobi Yousif, who finished fourth in the championship last year; Boat 17 is crewed by brothers Amer Ahmed and Ali Ahmed Alsabouri; Boat 19 is crewed by Bader Hareb and Eisa Mohamed Belhasa; Boat 23 is crewed by Mohamed Alnobi Yousuf and Marwan Matar Abdulla and Boat 30 by Ahmad Juma Alamlah.
The Dubai Wooden Powerboat Race is open to UAE Nationals only and has taken on a new lease of popularity following the introduction by DIMC of races for boats powered by standard outboard engines.
