  • PRESS RELEASE

The Middle East operations of VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, will highlight its latest capabilities in the utility computing arena at GITEX 2003, where the company will be exhibiting with its partner Dubai Internet City (DIC).

GITEX visitors will be among the first in the region to learn about VERITAS' ability to provide server provisioning and application performance management solutions. VERITAS' new utility computing strategy provides companies with fast, reliable access to data and applications, and enables IT departments to deliver technology infrastructure as a measurable, always-on service aligned with business goals and directions.

"Organizations in the Middle East are just beginning to develop an understanding about the business benefits of utility computing," said Mike Hynes, Regional Director, VERITAS Middle East. "GITEX is expected to provide an ideal platform through which VERITAS can further educate regional decision-makers about the availability, performance and automation that VERITAS' utility computing vision provides."

According to Hynes, "Utility computing represents a fundamental shift in the way IT departments in the Middle East will deliver applications to end-users. Just like an electric or water utility, the IT utility provides a fast, reliable service, and can adapt to changing business needs without human intervention. At the same time, the IT utility makes use of shared hardware resources, which maximizes utilization and reduces overall costs. The VERITAS stand at GITEX will provide a firsthand look at the this new concept, and how regional organizations can adopt it."
GITEX 2003 Highlights

Returning to GITEX for the third year, VERITAS will host members of its Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) senior management team with expertise in both business issues and technical challenges for one-on-one meetings with existing and potential customers from the region. The company plans live demonstrations as well as daily seminars to share with end-users VERITAS' vision for addressing operational challenges including storage management, data protection, high availability, application performance management, and disaster recovery.

"Storage management has become a critical issue for all businesses in the Middle East. This was shown through the record attendance at VERITAS VISION conference in Dubai in June 2003 when over 500 delegates gathered to listen and discuss VERITAS solutions. Customers and prospects also have a great opportunity to learn more about these solutions through our attendance at GITEX. Our participation will highlight both the vital importance of storage software in the overall IT environment, and underscores our relationship with the DIC as one of its very first tenants," Hynes added.

Other key topics that VERITAS plans to address during GITEX include the need for training and certification in the regional market. The storage software leader will be promoting the forthcoming launch of its own in-house training center within its DIC premises, as well as new schemes for end-users to become certified as VERITAS experts.
